The people who run newspapers know nothing about newspapers…

January 8, 2009

…well, according to this blog on Press Gazette they don’t.

According to veteran newspaper man Arnold Hadwin, who has accrued an outstanding 60 years in journalism, and turns 80 this week, the accountants and boardroom executives have significantly abused their privileges as overseers of newspapers in the UK in recent years, turning editorial resources and talent into a stripped-down, expendable asset.

More importantly, Hadwin discusses with incredible eloquency and pinpoint focus the ruinous impact of the number-crunchers and sales reps who have demanded more and more control over the traditional, objective editorial process.

Hat off to you Arnold, for outstanding comments on the sorry state of journalism today. Fabulous insights.
